a) Blogger. There are a lot of blog generators out there.
b) You can be up in running in 5 minutes. Most of html heavy-lifting has already been done for you. Takes about 1/2 hour to customize blog how you want.
a) I figure about 10 minutes per blog each week depending on the post. Does not take much effort to maintain once set up.
b) RSS feeds can be used to keep blog "active".
c) Try update every two weeks unless something comes up sooner.
d) The purpose and intended audience of this blog may make this blog less active than others but I am flexible to post as changes warrant.
a) Word of mouth response mainly. I have a few faculty mention the blog when I see them.
b) Remember this a test / BETA.
Slow roll out. Experimental at this point. Since it is a select audience mainly by email. Every email to faculty include a P.S. about the blogs. Every semester put out email to faculty in each department advertising library services including the blog.
a) 1. Find that it helps me to keep up on issues related to that department. Always looking for posts, so I am keenly aware of new books, news about the faculty, etc.
b) Instead of targeting a blog for each specific subject area it might be wiser to build a blog for each department. Foster collaboration with additional librarians also doing liaison work in those departments. Perhaps engage a faculty member to also work on the blog.
a) Blog policy?
b) Our library is considering hosting the blogs internally with our own software. Great potential for the library to "host" the blogs of faculty members. These blogs can provide space for their research ideas and foster communication in their subject areas. Librarians could read these blogs and suggest resources.
